Live and Let Drive? Hey Jude Highway? Penny Lane ... Lane?

Gwinnett County now has a road named after former Beatle and music legend Paul McCartney, officials eschewing the aforementioned options for a more eponymous approach.

But why is (pun-free) Paul McCartney Boulevard — a short stretch of asphalt off Meadow Church Road outside Duluth’s Gas South District — a thing in the first place? Why did Gwinnett’s Board of Commissioners celebrate it Tuesday afternoon with an official proclamation?

The answer is actually pretty simple: a little publicity stunt never hurt anyone, and McCartney and his “One on One” tour visit Gas South District on July 13.

Officials from the Arena called the move “a celebration of McCartney’s impressive career and the excitement for his inaugural performance in Gwinnett.”

“It’s a great honor for the county and Gas South District to have such a renowned performer visit,” Joey Dennis, the center’s general manager, said in an emailed statement. “The community is excited to show Paul true southern hospitality.”

Marcia Powell, Marketing and Communications Manager for Infinite Energy Arena, said there was “not a set timeline” for how long the road would bear McCartney’s name.
